There aren't many anime that really tune into the vibe the horror genre has.
This list is a complete list of the most horror related anime series!
They are either some of my personal favorites or some I've heard are well done.
I hope this will help you find a nice creepy show to watch with the lights off!
These anime are in order of most horror related to least. They are not in order by best so keep that in mind.
I also give a small description of each series so you know what you're in for before hand.

Corpse Party
This is a gore fest. The story isn't really the best but,
The horror aspect is at an 11 compared to other "horror" anime.
Gyo
This as a movie adaptation of a popular horror mangaka's work.
Junji Ito is amazing I highly recommend any of his work.
It's only downfall is the ending feels cut off but, the manga does as well.
Blood The Last Vampire
Vampires, monsters, lots of blood and the whole movie has dark scenes
It's basically night the whole time. Really feels suspenseful but, is a little action-y too.
Denpa Teki na Kanojo
What this anime lacks in length it makes up for with creepiness.
It's full of twisted scenes and worth a watch for any horror fan.
Higurashi
This one is popular for a reason. It's good. It's twisted, it's not for the faint of heart.
The story seems mixed up but, more and more comes together the more you watch.
There is enough comedic breaks that you won't lose your mind watching the series.
A lot of people get confused so to help out I'm going to post the order you should watch the series.

Shiki
This is a close friend of mine's favorite series.
After he basically forced me to watch this series I have to say it deserves a higher place on the list.
Shiki takes the cake in putting you in a situation where the atmosphere fits perfectly with the story.
It's one of those shows that will creep up on you and when the climax hits you'll marathon the rest.
Give this series a try if you're a fan of the genre or new to horror. It's a great introduction anime to the genre.
Boogiepop Phantom
This is my personal favorite horror like anime. The tone is dark.
As the anime goes on you'll start to see things connecting and the result is satisfying.
It's more of a mystery dish with horror spice but, worth a watch if you're a fan of twists.
Ghost Hound
More of a mystery type horror anime. A friend of mine really enjoyed it.
Yamishiba
Now I haven't watched this myself but, I skimmed some things and asked a few friends.
The animation in this series might turn some away it's "paper theater" which Yamishiba means!
This is a show that brings Japanese folk ghost types of stoires to life.
Give it a shot some may think it's scary some may find it not at all.
Hellsing
Hellsing is dark. It has dark tones and really feels eire.
It's the best vampire anime there is if you're looking for vampires.
Hellsing Ultimate
An updated version of Hellsing.
Hell Girl
This horror mystery anime has three seasons and it's one of those rare occasions where it just get better and better.
The main story is ok but, the real reason it's so good is you start to learn Hell Girl's story.
Her story is one of my favorites. It's really worth a watch.
If you find yourself bored in the first season don't skip the second and third! Give it a chance.
Mnemosyne
This series has some serious gore in it. Torture and gore and blood.
That's really the only reason it's even horror related though.
It's a decent series and the gore doesn't kill the main story unlike some.
Ga Rei Zero
More of an action/horror type of anime this one has gore and monsters.
Blood C
I couldn't get into this horror/action anime myself but, I know a lot of people love it.
It's not bad but, there's a lot of slice of life and comedy compared to the blood and horror.
Brynhildr
You can tell right away this series is from the same creator of Elfen Lied.
While it doesn't bring much new to the table, fans of Elfen Lied will like it a lot.
The ending is rushed from what I hear fans of the manga saying so just in case you can read that after!

There's only a few things in Elfen Lied that can even make it considered part horror.
The copious amounts of gore, and the psychological warefare that goes in with some characters.
The story is decent and it's a fan favorite for many. If you're looking for an entry level to something darker it's a good pick.
3x3 Eyes
A decent horror/action OVA with some gore and monsters.
Dead Ends.

This is my own opinion just like you have yours.
So keep an open mind.
Tokyo Ghoul
Another whiney MC and a mediocre story masked by ok action and gore.
Umineko
Read the visual novel instead.
Another
A decent series with a twist you see coming and another twist cut off ending.
Basically it just trolls you.
Pupa
Awful all around. The manga is decent if you want to try that if you somehow liked Pupa.
Zombie Loan
This is not what you think it is. It has nothing to do with zombies.
It's shoujo and just...bad in my opinion.
I am open to adding any suggested anime horror to the list if you know some I missed.
Don't be mad if I tell you I didn't enjoy it though!
